DAY 125 GRAMMY CHASE: SNF

Not SNL but Saturday Night Fever, from 1977, featuring a disco-happy, baby-faced John Travolta. The soundtrack album which has to date sold more than 30 million copies was granted a Grammy for Record of the Year at the 21st Annual Grammy  Awards Show. More than the dope soundtrack, I’m dance moves of Travolta are STILL mind boggling. Either dude practiced crazy hard for the role or in the words of the Godfather of Sould James Brown, John had “Soul to burn.”

GOOD PEOPLE GOOD TIMES

(Above: My mom in the middle with her “homegirl crew” aka “My Aunties”) by Kenny Macdonald

I wish I knew who to credit for the photographs, because the picture above had me in tears, just seeing the joy in my mothers face in watching her son perform really hit me in the heart. Thanks Mom!

There were many beautiful and wonderful people that I intended to thank and would have liked to acknowledge during the WBFO performance, but while on stage, it was “strictly” business since the show was airing LIVE on the radio.

I didn’t get the chance to thank my sweet, brilliant wife and wonderful children, or my dad, in-laws, cousins etc. My mom did get a shout from the announcer, Bert Gambini and my sister was on stage with me, along with my cousin Mike. But there were some really GREAT people in the audience like City Honors Alumni, two of which were pregnant…so that was pretty cool…”Thanks girls!!” Lots of highschool friends that really touched my heart to see them in attendance. Waaaay too many people to thank, but please know that you ARE ALL appreciated!!!

One more round of applause for the DOPE 45’s. The people in the picture above are unmatched and I’m delighted that they’ve all agreed to work with a brotha’. They are definitely DOPE!!

Above, I had to pull my man Trev Thorne on stage to perform one of the many “classics” songs we made as a part of the group called Raw Intel. Thanks Bro!

Thanks to Monica for her energy during our performance of “Superman Swag.” Lastly, Thanks to my stylist “LeeStew” Alleta Steward who hooked up the DOPE45’s and myself for this show. Check her out at: http://appleshaberdashery.com

LIVE AT WBFO

http://stream.publicbroadcasting.net/production/mp3/wbfo/local-wbfo-712281.mp3

At the request of some friends, one of whom had a birthday on the day of the WBFO show, May 28, I am finally able to bring the journey from Spain, back home to the states, primarily Buffalo!

On May 28, I had the PLEASURE of being the first Hip Hop artist to perform on the stage Live at Allen Hall (UB South Campus) as a part of WBFO’s long running Wednesday Night concert series. I can’t thank the people at WBFO enough for the opportunity, professionalism, and hospitality. Alison, Bert, Ken, the stage hands, the volunteers, the sound man (by the way it sounded awesome on-air), Brenda and many many others. My apologies for not remembering everyone’s name.

I know its a couple weeks later, and many of you may have listened to the podcast already, but click the play button above to hear it again or to hear it for the first time, whichever applies.

TONIGHT’S THE NIGHT

“It’s been a long time..I shouldn’t have left you…” – Rakim
I’ve been missing in action, I know…but they say absence makes the heart grow fonder. Well, whether you missed me or not, you can see me perform LIVE tonight at Allen Hall on UB’s South Campus, 3435 Main Street. The building sits right beside the South Campus Train Station. WBFO’s Wednesday Night Concert series will feature Billy Drease Williams and the Dope45’s LIVE on stage, along with not 1 DJ, but 2 of the best DJ’s around. Come see DJ Cutler and DJ LoPro make you say….”God*%$ that DJ made my day!!!!” Also see, the debut of the Dope45’s, Queen Fana and Mizike as they take the stage tonight for the first time. I also have special guests, award-winning producer Trev Thorne, and new face in the music scene, Babii Doll gracing the stage as well.
It’s a FREE event and open to all ages.

If you can’t make it, but you are in the WNY area, tune your radio dial to 88.7 Fm at 8pm to hear it live. Also check out WBFO for more info

Come party with us! Get there early as doors open around 7 or 730 and the show starts immediately at 8pm. See you there. PEACE!!!

BILLY DREASE @ BFO

A “Mighty” Thank You to the good people at WBFO. We are all pleased to announce that Edreys will be the first Hip Hop performance of the ongoing LIVE at Allen Hall Music series hosted by WBFO. (I had to say that part in 3rd person..sounded more cool and official)

There will be many reminders leading up to the show, as the venue holds 180, and we aim for each seat to have a big juicy one or bone skinny bottom occupying it…only to be told during the show..”GET UP OUT OF YOUR SEATS and WAVE YOUR HANDS IN THE AIIIRRR…etc etc etc.

It’s going to be a high-energy show, entertaining, funny and historical. So be there to be a part of history as they will air it LIVE on radio, video tape (along with interview) and podcast. Oh! AND ITS FREE!!!!

Yeah, that’s what I thought. We all love the cost of $free.99

BAND OF BROTHERS + BROTHER ALI

©SC Harwell

A recent performance in Buffalo as a part of “The Truth is Here” Brother Ali tour. Much respect to my man DJ Lo Pro “the sound provider” on the 1’s and 2’s. We’ll be puttin’ down again in May at the University of Buffalo, so stay on the look for the advertising/promotion for “Live in Allen Hall.”

Brother Ali gave me mad love and support, the ideal way that all artists should support one another. If only everything was ideal!!!

©SC Harwell

My other two brothers, Brotha Ivan and Dr. Brotha’ Jay. We just couldn’t get it right. Are you supposed to say “cheese” ON 3…like….1, 2, (cHeese)…..OR….1, 2, 3..(cHeese)…?
