Let me take it back to the days of high school, when I surely wasn’t paying attention to the Grammy’s and so Hip-Hopped out that I missed a truly “unforgettable” Grammy night for Natalie Cole in 1992.

Nat King Cole was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1990, while his daughter Natalie preserved the Cole legacy even further by smashing the Grammy’s in 1992 by taking home 7 gramophones in one evening. She took home 3 of the top 4 (Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Album of the Year) as well as 4 other categories.

The racial suppression and abuse that Nat King Cole endured over his career really makes me a bit embarrassed how today’s artists just take things for granted, have it a lot easier and yet they contribute much less to the integrity of black music.
